There are lots of ways to be involved in the movement to expand birthing options for families in our state. When we all contribute what we can, our efforts add up! Here are some things you can do:

Small Steps
  • Like us on facebook and follow us on twitter.
  • Sign up for our email newsletter.
  • Announce your home birth by placing a birth announcement in your local newspaper.
  • Tell your friends and family about this group. Put a link to our website in the signature line of your emails or posts to online bulletin boards.
  • Purchase items from our store.
  • Write letters to the editor when newspapers publish articles related to birth or midwifery.
  • Attend regional meetings and events, like our annual Labor Day Picnic.
  • Write to your legislators to urge them to support CPM licensure.
  • Bake cookies for our annual cookie day.

    Greater Strides
  • Volunteer to help on a committee - we have legislative, educational, events and fundraising committees. 
  • Submit your birth story and photo for our annual Born at Home Calendar.
  • Write birth and midwifery related articles for our blog and/or newsletter.
  • Organize a red envelope letter writing party in your area.
  • Attend a Lobby Day in Des Moines

    Giant Leaps
  • Join FOIM on a Professional, Sustainer, or Benefactor Level.
  • Volunteer to coordinate a regional group.
  • Donate your talents or services for a FOIM event or on-going effort. (Photography, printing, graphic design... whatever you've got!)
  • Donate your venue for use at a FOIM event, such as a film showing. 
  • Consider a board position.
