Who are Friends of Iowa Midwives?

Picture
We are a dedicated group of individuals and families from across the state working to ensure that Iowans have access to midwife-attended out-of-hospital birth as one of many safe childbirth options. Approximately 500 women give birth at home every year in Iowa, and demand for midwifery care is growing. We believe that Iowa's families deserve to be able to access safe out-of-hospital maternity care with licensed midwives.

Friends of Iowa Midwives formed in 2007, following the arrest of a Certified Professional Midwife in eastern Iowa. We represent families seeking access to midwives and we work together with the Iowa Midwives Association to promote legislative issues important to midwives and the families they serve.
